Envoy: Big Halal Market in France

WEALTH CREATION

THERE is a big market in France for local halal players, especially those that process food items such as juices and dairy milk products, said French ambassador to Malaysia Marc Barety.

"We have the biggest halal food industry in Western Europe as we have the largest number of Muslims in western Europe," he said at an interview at the embassy in Kuala Lumpur recently.

Unofficial figures show that France is home to close to seven million Muslims.

"In France, we have a large number of halal food processors for meat produce, which we export to other countries in the Middle East.

"What we are more interested is in food items such as milk, juices and also water as we don't have that. In time, we will be able to export them to other Muslim countries and also to the local market," the envoy added.

He said it was important that when food items such as these were sent to France, they must be repackaged where the content needs to be written in French.

Barety said Malaysian halal products were highly regarded by the French for being reliable.
