Bank Negara reserves at RM429.6b
KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara's international reserves amounted to RM429.6 billion (equivalent to US$134.5 billion) as at July 31.
In a statement yesterday, the central bank said the reserves position was sufficient to finance 9.5 months of retained imports and was 4.3 times the short-term external debt.
It said the main components of the international reserves were foreign currency reserves (US$121.7 billion); International Monetary Fund reserves (US$900 million); Special Drawing Rights (SDRs - US$1.9 billion); gold (US$1.9 billion); and other reserve assets (US$8.1 billion).
Bank Negara's total assets including international reserves stood at RM478.12 billion. Its other assets included the Malaysian government papers (RM2.13 billion); deposits with financial institutions (RM27.47 billion); loans and advances (RM10.09 billion); and other assets (RM8.87 billion).
Its capital and liabilities comprised paid-up capital (RM100 million); general reserve fund (RM14.37 billion); other reserves (RM18.59 billion); currency in circulation (RM64.94 billion); deposits by financial institutions (RM173.77 billion); federal government deposits (RM21.07 billion); other deposits (RM4.36 billion); Bank Negara papers (RM145.64 billion); allocation of SDRs (RM6.459 billion); and other liabilities (RM28.82 billion).
