BNM reserves RM313.9b as at April 30

BANK Negara Malaysia's international reserves amounted to RM313.9 billion as at April 30 this year or equivalent to US$96 billion.

The figure is slightly higher than the RM313.1 billion as at April 15.

In a statement today, the central bank said the reserves position was sufficient to finance 8.5 months of retained imports and four times the short-term external debt.
Its assets stood at RM349.287 billion.

Apart from the international reserves, other assets included Malaysian government papers (RM2.658 billion), deposits with financial institutions (RM13.49 billion), loans and advances (RM12.506 billion) and other assets (RM6.708 billion).

Its liabilities comprised paid-up capital (RM100 million), general reserves fund (RM13.478 billion), other reserves (RM14.624 billion), currency in circulation (RM52.057 billion), deposits by financial institutions (RM163.209 billion), deposits by Federal Government (RM11.47 billion), other deposits (RM1.293 billion), Bank Negara papers (RM60.51 billion), allocation of special drawing rights (RM6.656 billion) and other liabilities (RM25.88 billion).
