Bank Negara reserves up 7.3pc

Bank Negara's international reserves stood at RM369.9 billion (equivalent to US$122.2 billion) as at April 15, 2011, up from RM344.5 billion as at March 31, 2011.

The central bank said the reserves position was sufficient to finance 9.8 months of retained imports and is 4.7 times the short-term external debt.

It said the main components of the reserves were foreign currency of US$122.2 billion, IMF International Reserve position of US$110.8 billion, special drawing rights of US$2.0 billion, gold at US$1.7 billion and other reserves assets of US$7.0 billion.

Liabilities comprised paid-up capital of (RM100 million), general reserve fund (RM13.644 billion), other reserves (RM5.273 billion), currency in circulation (RM55.432 billion), deposits by financial institutions (RM210.890 billion), Federal government deposits (RM33.972 billion), other deposits (RM3.172 billion), Bank Negara papers (RM106.486 billion), allocation of SDRs(RM6.458 billion) and other liabilities (RM23.854 billion).
