Istana Negara complex to cost RM147m more
THE cost of building the new Istana Negara complex is now RM797 million, an increase of RM147 million from the initial RM650 million.
Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said the increase was due to items not included in the original contract, such as upgrading of the security system, capital contribution payment to utility companies and interior decoration.
In a written reply to Lim Lip Eng (DAP-Segambut), Shaziman said as with other buildings, the complex also needed access roads.
For this project, Shaziman said the ministry was building a RM106 million elevated highway to and from Jalan Duta.
The government is also upgrading Jalan Changkat Semantan for RM32.5 million.
