Socso will pay even if employers don't
WEALTH PROTECTION
KUALA LUMPUR The Social Security Organisation (Socso) will still pay compensation to registered workers although the employers did not pay subscription, said Human Resource Deputy Minister Datuk Maznah Mazlan. "However, the employers will be hauled up for failure to pay subscription," she said in reply to Senator Datuk Mohammed Najeeb Abdullah who asked about the status of workers whose employers did not pay subscription but deducted their wages.
Maznah told Dewan Negara that up to Dec last year, 724,290 employers had registered with Socso of which 334,757 were active.
"Some 5,416 of the active employers had failed to pay subscription to their workers. Socso officers from all 45 branches nationwide had launched Ops Kesan to trace errant employers."
She said Socso would continue to promote and publicise this in the mass media so that employers continue to protect the workers and abide by the law.
